Obadiah and the Second Coming of Jesus

The following quotation isn’t exactly replete with Lenten or Easter themes, but it did catch my eye today:

Obadiah is right to say The day of the Lord is near (15), always imminent, and we should be always ready for it. Sometimes biblical scholars can say critically (and somewhat patronizingly perhaps) that ‘of course Paul expected Jesus to return during his own lifetime’. Should not our response be to say, ‘Yes, of course he did – and he was right to do so. Don’t you expect Jesus to return in our lifetime? His coming is always imminent.’

Gordon Bridger, The Message of Obadiah, Nahum and Zephaniah: The Kindness and Severity of God. The Bible Speaks Today (Nottingham: IVP, 2010), p. 64, italics original

Let’s give the prophet Obadiah some love!
