Call for Papers: “Game Over” – Good or Bad News? Making Sense of Eschatology

I’ve been asked to publicise a call for papers for a forthcoming conference on eschatology, which I’m more than happy to do. Here are the details:

“Game Over” – Good or Bad News?
Making Sense of Eschatology

University of Geneva, October 22–24, 2015

How does the Christian faith think the “end”?

From biblical perspectives to constructive systematic and ethical reinterpretations (including the visions of an “enhanced” human species) via historical studies of the Christian tradition broadly conceived, this conference seeks to raise anew the question of the meaning of “eschatology”.

Further information about the aims and scope of the conference may be found here. Speakers include Jean-Luc Marion, Karen Kilby, J. Wentzel van Huyssteen, and David Wilkinson.

If you’re interested in presenting at this conference, please send a one-page paper proposal and a one-page CV by 31 December, 2014, to Christophe Chalamet.

  1. there are at least three uninspected presumptions at work when Christians mumble on about "eschatology".
    They are:
    1. A reductionist misunderstanding of the nature of the world (as a "given" objective phenomenon)
    2. A reductionist misunderstanding of the nature of the presumed separate "self"
    3. A misunderstanding of the purpose & significance of death, and the understanding of death as the key to right life.
These references address these 3 uninspected presumptions:
